I am just so fascinated with the story of this local mom of three who is a hugely successful playwright. The Washington Post ran a nice piece about Karen Zacarias a few weeks ago. It’s helpful to hear how another mom and her family were able to set priorities for her to be successful as a mom and as a creative writer.I’m hoping to get to her latest staging, Legacy of Light at Arena Stage.
Check out “Writing Two Roles for Herself” by Ellen McCarthy from the May 8, 2009 Washington Post. I found it very insightful and inspiring, if not a little sad from the envious person’s perspective. However, I just read the comments, which are pretty lame and don’t seem to reflect any understanding of what it is like to be a mom of young children who stays home and tries to work from home. Even with financial security and spousal support, it’s no small feat to dedicate yourself to a creative process while never being able to fully extricate yourself from the creative process of raising children.
Didn’t finish this post before I went to the play. It was great!
