My family agrees with trying to eliminate HFCS from our diets. We want food to be more than just different flavors and textures of HFCS. More importantly, even if we substituted cane sugar for HFCS, do we really need it in salad dressing, soup, ketchup, etc.? Not all foods need sweeteners of any kind. So changing HFCS to the euphemism Corn Sugar is not better, not just because of content, but do the corn sweetener advocates really think we need it in all of our food?? What about natural flavors and sugars? Thank you for raising awareness.

I have refuse to buy any product that contains HFCS for several year and will continue to refuse to buy anything that contains what ever they want to call afterward.
I’ve written to Campbell’s about their Tomato Soup and they wrote back telling me it has no more calories than sugar. Of course I replied back informing them that at 5 foot 9 inches and 130 pounds I was not concerned about calories. I never heard back from them.
I agree with Chris, why is that junk in salad dressing and why is it in my so called “Honey Wheat” bread as an added sweetener if it already has honey?
I also wrote to the corn growers and complained about their brainwashing commercials ‘cornsugar.com’
If they refuse to stop putting this junk in our food, here is what I propose, STOP buying all corn, fresh, canned or frozen and stop buying all corn based products!
Just maybe we can cause the corn industry to start loosing money and they just may listen.

I really enjoy your story on CNN. I too check the back of everything I buy. It’s just something we don’t need. I know that in Germany and other countries in Europe HFCS is not in nearly as much packaged food. Stay Smart!
Thanks, karen

I am with you on corn. I did mention the GMO and subsidy angle but they didn’t fit into the piece (I figured they might not, which is why I made sure to mention that here!)

Hello,I saw you on CNN today, what a great story. Finally another mom that reads labels as much as me.I resent that I have to constantly dig through all of our grocery products to make sure that I am not buying ingredients that I do not want to serve to my family. My husband and I have two young boys, ages 3 & 5, and while I am not opposed to sugar or letting them have an occasional treat, everyday HFCS is a big no-no.I know from my own personal experiences that I gain weight and feel miserable when I eat this product. It also makes the kids super crazy when they consume it! It appears in so many products that I often go straight to organics because I know they do not have HCFS, partially hydrogenated vegetable oils or other ‘non’ food ingredients listed on the label. What a thrill to watch only a few minutes of the news today and to see your story. Keep up the great work!

Here is a link to Sugar: the bitter truth. It was presented by Dr Robert Lustig and adds quite a bit of science to the arguement that not only is HFCS bad for you…it’s actually poisonous.
Quite a long video (90mins) but VERY informative

I applaud your efforts to not feed your children any HFCS. I believe that all the highly processed crap we are feeding our kids is a major contributor to all the issues they have now days, like obessity and ADHD. Everyone thinks it is just so much easier to shove a bowl of Mac and Cheese or Chicken nuggets in their faces but we aren’t thinking of the overall health of our kids. Speaking of which I see you are still using the sling baby carrier which has been proven dangerous to babies. The suffocate in them. You might want to consider something better to haul you kid around in.

I agree that food contributes not just to physical issues but emotional as well.
As for babywearing, I’d direct you to Mothering’s statement on sling safety and offer that when my baby is on my body, I’m pretty in tune with her! http://www.mothering.com/green-living/mothering-responds-cpsc-sling-warning-babywearing-safe

have you all signed the petition to keep the FDA from letting them change the name to corn sugar? http://www.stopcornsugarnow.com/
My family and I have been working at cutting out HFCS from our diets the last couple of years. In some areas we have succeeded and others it has been more difficult. It is really crazy that they put it in jelly and applesauce – isn’t this stuff sweet enough? I would bet that about 60%+ of the food out there has it. We also try to eat 100% and real whole grains – no enriched flour.
